Prehistoric Wood Stork with babies
Love wood storks! Wood Stork, Mycteria americana: The U.S. breeding population of Wood Storks, presently found in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, has been listed as Endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service since 1984 due to a striking decline from 20,000 to fewer than 5,700 pairs. This decline was accompanied by a major shift in breeding abundance from southern Florida to a much more dispersed distribution northward through peninsular Florida, coastal Georgia, and South Carolina.

"Stubby Fenwick", the Red Tailed Hawk.
Meet the newest member of the two legged feathered Fenwick Family (below). 'Stubby' was released 3.11.2011 at the plantation by Isaac Green, of the Charleston Avian Conservation Center after having surgery and being nursed back to great health. "Stubby" was so named due to losing part of one of his few toes! But he is doing well. Upon releasing, he was surrounded and was being 'welcomed' by the resident huge crows. Thanks Isaac for all that you do!
